Notes for CAIUS RUTHVIN BAGBY:

Caius worked as a School Teacher, Constable, and Marshall and served many in the area as Doctor for minor things. He was an excellent marksman and would shoot quail and take them to Richmond to sell at market.

William Joseph Bagby would recount the story about the Christmas Day in 1918 they received a message that his father Caius had taken ill. The roads were nearly impassable from the weather, but the family went to Louisa from Richmond. Robert Ruthvin, Sr. was six months at the time, but they had to take him along.

Caius was so ill by the time most of the family arrived that the only thing he said, and his last words were "Whithersoever the carcass is there will the eagles be gathered".

He was quoting Matthew 24:28 "For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together."

He died on the 26th and was buried on William Joseph Bagby's twenty-fifth birthday, December 28, 1918.
