data and correspondence collected by Mrs. W.M. Creasy of Wilmington,
North Carolina. [Formerly Miss Gertrude Medernach Bagby] and her father
Dr. George Kendrick Bagby, extending over a period of more than 40
years. Much valuable data has also been collected and contributed
by Mr. C.L. DeMott of Lynchburg, Virginia. We are indebted to Reverend
Alfred Bagby, D.D. of Richmond, Virginia [now dead many years, for
information concerning the descendents of his father, John Bagby,
also information concerning the earlier generations]. Information
concerning many of the families is greatly abridged, owing to inability
to obtain dates of births, marriages and deaths in the majority of
cases. The latter generations of many of the families are missing
from this record, owing to the fact that much of the correspondence
on which it is based is from thirty to forty years old.
